Why I Chose Keto Baking – And Why It Might Be Right for You Too

Hi, I’m Annie — the founder and baker behind Keto Dough.
If you’ve ever looked at one of my cookies and wondered, “Wait… how is this keto?” — you’re not alone!

Let me share a little story.

From Cravings to Clean Eating

I started baking keto treats because I was tired of feeling guilty every time I wanted something sweet. Most store-bought desserts are packed with sugar, flour, and processed junk. I wanted something better — something I could enjoy and feel good about.

That’s how Keto Dough was born.

What Is Keto, Anyway?

Keto is short for “ketogenic” — a way of eating that focuses on low carbs, moderate protein, and healthy fats. It helps some people lose weight, manage blood sugar, and feel more energized. But even if you’re not on the keto diet, you can still enjoy keto-friendly treats.

We believe in transparency and quality. Here's a closer look at the ingredients we use in our baked goods:

Sweeteners

Monk Fruit Sweetener
A natural, zero-calorie sugar substitute made from monk fruit. Its sweetness comes from mogrosides and doesn’t raise blood sugar levels. Sourced from 
Lakanto® and Whole Earth®, a clean, plant-based sweetener with no aftertaste.

Erythritol
A sugar alcohol with about 70% the sweetness of sugar and nearly zero calories. It does not spike blood sugar or insulin.

Xylitol
A plant-based sweetener found in fruits and vegetables. About 70% as sweet as sugar, it has fewer calories and a low glycemic impact. Sourced from Health Garden®, non-GMO and derived from hardwood for a pure, natural sweetness.

Allulose is a natural, low-calorie sweetener found in small amounts in foods like figs, raisins, and maple syrup. It tastes and bakes like real sugar — but your body doesn’t metabolize it the same way, so it has almost no calories and doesn’t raise blood sugar or insulin levels.

Healthy Fats & Oils

Coconut Oil
A wholesome oil extracted from coconut meat, rich in MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides).
We use high-quality, unrefined coconut oil for the best taste and benefits. 

Sourced from Viva Naturals®, cold-pressed and unrefined for pure coconut flavor and healthy fats.

Butter
We use real butter for rich flavor and texture. It provides natural fats that support a moist, satisfying bite in our cookies and cakes.

sourced from Kerrygold®, made from milk of grass-fed Irish cows for rich flavor and natural creaminess.

Flours & Baking Bases

Almond Flour
Made from finely ground almonds. Gluten-free, low-carb, and nutrient-dense — perfect for keto baking.

Sourced from Kirkland®, finely ground and made from 100% California-grown almonds for a light, smooth texture.

Coconut Flour
A high-fiber flour made from dried coconut meat. It’s naturally gluten-free and works great for low-carb recipes.

From Bob’s Red Mill®, made from pure, dried organic coconut with no additives.

Dutch-Processed Cocoa Powder – sourced from NuNaturals®, rich and smooth for deep chocolate flavor without bitterness.

Cacao Powder – sourced from Volupta®, pure and minimally processed to preserve natural antioxidants and nutrients.

Ground Flax (Flax Meal)
Rich in omega-3s, fiber, and antioxidants. It also helps bind ingredients naturally.

Sourced from Viva Naturals®, organic and cold-milled for freshness and smooth texture.

Protein We Use

Promix® Grass-Fed Whey Protein 

Made from pasture-raised cows, this whey protein is rich in amino acids for muscle recovery and a smooth, creamy texture. It’s non-GMO, hormone-free, and free from artificial sweeteners or gums.

Promix® Micellar Casein 

A slow-digesting protein that helps keep you full longer and gives baked goods a rich, soft texture. Like their whey, it’s sourced from grass-fed dairy and minimally processed for the cleanest nutrition possible.

Promix® Collagen Peptides

Supports healthy hair, skin, joints, and digestion. Promix collagen is sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle and dissolves easily without taste or texture issues.

Flavorful Additions

We keep our mix-ins simple, natural, and full of flavor — always unsweetened and never artificial.

  • Pascha® – organic, Fair-Trade chocolate that’s dairy-free, allergen-friendly, and keto-compatible.

Sourced from Sprouts® Organic, for clean, fresh coconut flavor without added sugar or sulfites.

Chopped pecans & walnuts

Kirkland® Organic, gently chopped for a fresh, buttery crunch.

Unsweetened dried cranberries

From Honestly Cranberry®, made with just one ingredient: cranberries. No added sugar, oils, or juice — ever.

Toasted coconut flakes

 We only use clean, whole ingredients that enhance texture and taste — never preservatives, dyes, or artificial flavorings.
